SAP API Integration

SAP API Integration Services

Connect SAP applications to the systems your teams use every day. Macrofix can scope API contracts, data mapping, authentication, exception recovery and integration testing around a defined business process. Start with the source and target responsibilities, then select the appropriate integration approach.

Connect the Business Process, Not Just the Endpoint

An order, employee update or reporting record can cross several systems before the process is complete. A successful API response is only one part of that journey. The integration must also handle ownership, identifiers, validation, downstream acceptance and failure recovery.

This service focuses on delivering specific interfaces between SAP and business applications. For broader platform selection and extensions, explore SAP BTP consulting. For Business One-specific interfaces, see SAP Business One integration services.

SAP Integration Design & Delivery Workstreams

Scope each interface against a business requirement, available APIs and target-system constraints. Agree data ownership, timing, volumes and acceptance evidence before development. The workstreams below describe a proposed delivery approach, not a promise that every system exposes a suitable API or that a ready-made connector covers your process.

Interface Discovery & Integration Architecture

Inventory the applications, business objects, endpoints and existing integration flows involved in the process. Identify where data originates, which system is authoritative and what a completed transaction means to business users. Review synchronous, asynchronous, event-driven or scheduled exchange against the actual requirement.

SAP Integration Suite includes application integration, API management and event-driven capabilities. We assess the services available in your account, supported connectivity and operational requirements before selecting a tool. An integration design can also involve approved existing middleware.

API Contracts & Data Mapping

Define the request and response contract, required fields, identifiers, code translations and validation rules. Record examples using synthetic data, expected failures and how the receiving application confirms acceptance. Separate master-data changes from transactional events.

Plan schema and API version handling, pagination, ordering, duplicate detection and reconciliation where relevant. A record should not be silently treated as delivered because it left the source system. Business owners approve mappings and exception decisions that affect their process.

Access, Policies & Connectivity

Confirm network paths, identity providers, authentication methods and authorization needs for each endpoint. Scope access to the required operations and environments, with customer-approved credential storage and rotation arrangements. Test permitted and denied calls as part of acceptance.

Where API policies are needed, assess rate limits, traffic controls and logging against the selected gateway and contract. Avoid exposing secrets or sensitive payloads in ordinary diagnostic logs. Product settings and secure connectivity remain environment-specific implementation decisions.

Error Recovery & End-to-End Testing

Design what happens when a request times out, the target is unavailable, a token expires or a record fails validation. Agree retry limits, backoff, duplicate safeguards, exception queues and manual intervention rules. A replay must not create unintended duplicate business transactions.

Test the full process with representative volumes and failure scenarios, not just an isolated endpoint demonstration. Compare source and target records, confirm business outcomes and record unresolved risks. Timing and throughput targets need evidence from the agreed environment.

Deployment, Monitoring & Handover

Release interfaces through agreed development, test and production stages. Record configuration dependencies, approval evidence and rollback or recovery steps. Define who owns each endpoint, middleware component and downstream business exception after release.

Provide interface documentation, test results and operating runbooks, with monitoring and escalation scope made explicit. Ongoing support can be scoped through SAP managed services; it is not automatically included indefinitely in an integration implementation.

A Testable Interface Specification

The interface specification turns a general request to connect systems into an implementation and testing reference. It records the business event, source and target objects, field mappings, access requirements and success criteria. Owners can use it to approve the design before code or configuration is promoted.

Include failure examples and reconciliation rules alongside the happy path. Use synthetic payloads in shared documentation. Production samples, personal information and secrets require a separately approved secure channel and handling process.

Govern Data Access and System Ownership

Agree who can authorize data exchange and which information may leave each application. Record retention, diagnostic masking and audit requirements with your business and security teams. HR, customer and financial information may require stricter controls than a public product catalogue.

API availability, vendor limits, regional features, subscriptions and third-party connector terms must be confirmed for the actual systems. No universal compatibility, real-time delivery, unlimited throughput, compliance certification or vendor partnership is implied by this page.

From Integration Assessment to Controlled Release

Begin with a priority business process and an interface feasibility review. Approve the contract, mappings, access approach and recovery behavior, then build and test within the agreed environments. Business owners sign off process outcomes and technical owners confirm operating readiness.

Release only when dependencies, support ownership and acceptance evidence are recorded. Further interfaces can be added in phases using the same contract and governance approach. A prototype is a learning step, not proof that production constraints have been met.

Evidence Before an Interface Goes Live

Review the evidence against the agreed interface specification. Successful, rejected and delayed transactions should produce the expected outcomes and traceable records. Confirm that retries, duplicate safeguards and reconciliation work under representative conditions.

Validate access boundaries, credential handling and operational alerts without disclosing sensitive payloads. Record measured limitations and outstanding risks. If a supplier dependency remains unresolved, identify its owner and effect on the release decision.

SAP API Integration FAQs

We assess the specific application versions, available APIs, network paths and vendor terms before confirming feasibility. The scope can involve SAP ERP, HR or analytics applications and third-party business systems. We do not promise that every product has a usable API or that one connector covers every process.
No single tool is assumed for every requirement. We assess the interface pattern, existing middleware, available services and operational needs. SAP Integration Suite can be considered where appropriate; its capabilities and subscriptions must be confirmed for your account.
Timing depends on the source events, API behavior, rate limits, middleware, network conditions and target processing. We agree a target and test it in the selected environment. This page does not guarantee instant delivery or a fixed throughput for every system.
We define identifiers and duplicate detection, retry limits and reconciliation rules appropriate to the process. The source, middleware and target may each need controls. Testing includes timeout and replay scenarios; we do not assume an HTTP success code proves a completed business transaction.
No. Use the public form only for a non-sensitive description of the systems and process. Credentials, API keys, employee records and confidential customer or financial data must use approved secure channels with defined handling and access.
Implementation includes the documented handover agreed in the project scope. Continuing monitoring, incident response, release coordination and maintenance require an explicit support arrangement. The SAP managed-services page describes that separate operational scope.

Plan Your Next SAP Integration

Tell us the SAP application, the system it needs to connect to and the process you want to complete. Macrofix can propose an interface assessment and delivery scope. Explore the SAP platform and cloud hub or digital engineering services for related work. Do not include API keys, passwords or confidential records in the public enquiry form.
