When you’re managing a growing team, those old-school, one-size-fits-all appraisals stop making sense. Odoo’s Appraisals app gets this, and lets you create your own templates — the kind that ask the right questions to the right people.
Here’s a quiet walkthrough of how that works.
One template isn’t enough (and that’s okay)
Odoo ships with a ready-made appraisal form. It’s decent — has sections about achievements, challenges, career goals, feedback. Pretty good for most folks.
But let’s be honest. Your developers, your designers, your support team — they all speak different professional languages. They deserve their own forms.
That’s where template customization comes in.
Let’s tweak that default
Go to Appraisals → Configuration → Appraisal Templates. Open the “Default Template” and you’ll see a bunch of open-ended questions:
- What have you achieved?
- What challenges popped up?
- How can we help you do better?
Also, star ratings for things like stress resistance, teamwork, autonomy.
Just click and edit. Add, remove, rewrite — it’s all yours.
Make department-specific templates
Let’s say you run a company with both field technicians and office folks. Different jobs. Different metrics. Different questions.
You can duplicate the default template, rename it something like “Technician Appraisal,” and add questions that actually make sense for someone who fixes things onsite.
Same for your backend team — create a separate one focused on workflow, docs, or process optimization.
Quick heads-up: Check the Surveys app
All appraisal templates live in Odoo’s Surveys app. After creating or editing a template, go to the Surveys app, open that form, and make sure you tick the Appraisal option. That’s what makes it show up in the actual Appraisals app.
If you skip this — you’ll wonder where your form went.
